SCHS Maryvale Community Learning Center
At our SCHS Maryvale Community Learning Center, we understand that the adolescent brain is still developing—and that growth thrives in environments built on autonomy, flexibility, and meaningful connection. We create spaces where students have voice and choice in their learning, empowering them to take ownership of their goals while receiving personalized support. Our flexible schedules and individualized pathways honor the realities of our students’ lives, helping them balance school, work, and family responsibilities. Most importantly, we prioritize belonging. Every student is known, valued, and connected to caring adults who believe in their potential. Here, education isn’t one-size-fits-all—it’s responsive, relationship-centered, and designed to help young people rediscover confidence, purpose, and possibility.
The SCHS Maryvale Community Learning Center is a public charter high school serving learners in the Maryvale area and nearby neighborhoods. Located at 3825 North 67th Avenue in Phoenix, this campus offers a calm, interactive, and unique school setting based on best practices, where students work through coursework and post-graduation plans with personal attention from well-trained teachers and staff. The flexible schedule at this location runs from early morning to mid-afternoon, catering to real people with real schedules while supporting academic growth and community connection.
Our learning spaces are places where students feel heard and supported, and where teachers take time to help each person make progress at a pace that fits them. Families appreciate that we treat students as individuals with unique paths and strengths, not numbers in a crowded system.
Meet Principal Dr. Shayne Sotelo of SCHS Maryvale Learning Center
At the helm of the SCHS Maryvale Community Learning Center is Dr. Shayne Sotelo, an educator with more than 27 years of experience working with students in both traditional and nontraditional school settings. Dr. Sotelo began her journey with a deep love for teaching that grew during her own high school experience and has carried through many roles since.
One of her proud achievements was creating the first public Montessori Adolescent Program in Arizona, where she taught and led for 15 years. Her background in adolescent psychology gives her insight into how young people learn, grow, and build confidence. Dr. Sotelo’s leadership focuses on building an inclusive school community where every student feels a sense of belonging and support.
Student Choice High School Programs for Maryvale Students
At SCHS Maryvale Community Learning Center, students can choose from programs built to help them make real progress toward a high school diploma. These programs are supported by certified professionals who work closely with learners so they feel prepared and confident in their academic journey.
- Traditional Alternative Education
This program is designed for students who want a structured learning experience that still adapts to their individual pace and needs. Coursework aligns with state requirements for graduation, and students work with teachers who offer guidance, feedback, and encouragement as they complete their classes. Students can build confidence while moving steadily toward completing their diploma.
- Credit Recovery Program
For those who have earned fewer credits than expected and want to catch up, the Credit Recovery Program offers a focused way to make up key courses. Students work with instructors to address specific academic gaps and focus on the credits they still need. With personalized plans and flexible learning rhythms, students can regain momentum and continue their path toward graduation.
